San Joaquin Marsh, Irvine

The San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary is located near the University of
California, in Irvine. The Sanctuary encompasses 300 acres of coastal
freshwater wetlands and 10 miles of trails that are open to the public.
More than 200 bird species have been identified at the Marsh. Irvine Ranch
Water District (IRWD) and Sea and Sage Audubon are just a few of the groups
that are helping to restore and enhance the Sanctuary. See
http//shell.exo.com/~kenyon/sjws.htm for Sea and Sage Audubon activities at
the San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary.

Just north of the Sanctuary is the Irvine Ranch Water District Michelson
Water Reclamation Plant. This facility helps reclaim wastewater and
provides irrigation water to nearby agricultural fields, orchards, parks,
schools, golf courses, and streetscapes. In conjunction with The Irvine
Company, IRWD has worked with the City of Irvine for the past 10 years to
restore and enhance the largest coastal freshwater wetlands reserve in
Southern California ( http://www.irwd.com ).
